The makeshift camp at the site of an abandoned bus company office had been home to roughly 450 migrants, mainly young men but including some mothers with small children as well.

Rights groups said most migrants there had documents and were awaiting social housing allotments.

Concerned aid organizations expressed fear that those now being ejected in an effort to "clean up" the city before the Olympics take place — from July 26 to August 11 — would not be able to find long-term housing assistance after being thrown out.

"The squat was the biggest in France. It doubled in size in one year because of the Olympics. Last year, authorities cleared out migrants from nearby the Olympic Village, and many displaced people came here," said Paul Alauzy of the humanitarian organization Medecins du Monde.

Authorities said the eviction operation will continue for several days. On Wednesday, some 300 people were forcibly removed from the site — 150 had left the night before. Many of those evicted were put onto buses to be brought to other cities around France.

Some groups also raised concerns that the move would negatively impact the well-being of school-aged children who are uprooted from the squat.

Bishop Emmanuel called for peace among his community and publicly forgave his attacker.
Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy over the attack.

The bishop who was stabbed at a Sydney church on Monday night says he forgives his attacker and is "doing fine" after undergoing surgery.

The Assyrian Orthodox Christ The Good Shepherd Church posted an update on social media this morning that included an audio recording from the bishop.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested over the attack and authorities are investigating it as a "terrorist incident". No charges have been laid.

Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel said he forgives "whoever has done this act".

"I will always pray for you. And whoever sent you to do this, I forgive them as well is Jesus's mighty name," he said.

In his almost four-minute speech, Bishop Emmanuel reassured his followers he was improving.

"I'm doing fine, recovering very quickly. We thank the Lord Jesus, so there is no need to be worried or concerned," he said.

Father Daniel Kochou, who also spoke in the video, said Father Isaac Royel, who was also attacked on Monday night was "recovering well".

He added "nearby church members" who were attacked had also "received special care".

Father Kochou also said the church "does not condone the activities" that took place outside the church following Bishop Emmanuel's attack.

"The unfortunate events which took place outside the church caused unnecessary delays and threats to both victims, paramedics and police," he said.

One stranded passenger told CNN he spent the night at the airport with hundreds of others after flying in from Hong Kong late Tuesday because there were no transport options out of the terminal.

♱ Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel's life was likely saved from death because his alleged attacker's flick-knife failed to open properly during the stabbing - and the suspect cut his own finger off in the botched attack.

Close friend Danny Abdallah spoke to the bishop as he recovered in hospital overnight and on Tuesday he revealed further details that had come to light.

Mr Abdallah - who became a public figure when three of his children and his niece were killed by a drunk and drugged driver - called the bishop's survival an 'act of God'.

A 16-year-old boy dressed in black was seen calmly walking up to the bishop at his altar at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley, west Sydney, about 7.10pm on Monday.

He appeared to strike the bishop a series of blows to the head and neck, repeatedly swinging down in a stabbing motion.

In the video clip, the alleged attacker pauses briefly to look at his hand before resuming the attack - but was unable to properly open the flick knife.

It's since been confirmed the attacker cut his own finger off with the knife during the attack.

Her neighbours kept feeding her ideas about a curse, but when she finally took Jaren to qualified doctors this month, they found out he had a medical condition called hypertrichosis.

The incredibly rare syndrome only affects an estimated "one in every one billion people" as only 50 to 100 cases were reported worldwide since the Middle Ages.

Footage shows the two-year-old playing around a building and their home, but Alma worries his unique looks will be a challenge in school.

But then recently the doctors told me it was not related."

Out of Alma's three kids, middle child Jaren was the only one looking different.

She said Jaren was a happy and playful boy but he complains about having itchy rashes when the weather becomes hot.

"I will give him a bath when it's hot. We even tried to cut the hair, but it would just grow back even longer and thicker, so we stopped doing it," she explained.

After seeing baby Jaren this month, dermatologist Dr Ravelinda Soriano Perez said: "We believe this was an inherited condition, but it is very rare. One in only one billion people could have it."

The doctor added that while hypertrichosis did not have a cure, treatments such as laser hair removal could help the condition.

She said: "We will try to do ten sessions in four to six weeks and then observe."

Mum Alma now pleads with good Samaritans for help since each session would cost the family 2,500 PHP (£34.97).

She said: "I am very thankful to those who already helped us. I hope my son could have a better chance in life with your help."

27-year-old Kamonnan Thiamphanit, known as Angela to friends, was heard screaming on the evening of Sunday 7 April by neighbours before her body was found by police on Monday.

The Metropolitan Police has referred itself to a watchdog after it emerged calls from friends concerned about her welfare were not acted upon.

Kamonnan Thiamphanit, 27, was found dead by police at a property on Stanhope Place in London's plush Bayswater area on Monday morning, prompting investigation into reports of screams coming from the building over the weekend.

Neighbours living close to the £4million house, formerly serving the Ethiopian Embassy, told MailOnline they had heard loud music and shouting late on Saturday night and into the early hours of Sunday morning, hours before police received calls expressing concern for the dual-nationality Chinese/Hong Kong and Thai woman.

Police have now confirmed they are 'supporting her devastated family and friends as best we can as they come to terms with their tragic loss', noting Ms Thiamphanit, who worked in London, has relatives based overseas.

'While our detectives are keeping an open mind regarding any motive, I can confirm they believe it is possible that her attacker was known to her,' said Commander Owain Richards on Thursday.

Residents of the area told MailOnline they believe the house is rented out as an Airbnb-style holiday let and that it does not have any permanent residents, having previously served as the site of the Ethiopian diplomatic mission in the United Kingdom.

One wealthy local said the types of people leasing the property varied - but that most only tended to stay for a short time.

In December 2020, the human rights body released a report revealing that deplorable conditions are holding hundreds of migrants in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The detainees, primarily from Ethiopia but also from other African and Asian countries, are being held pending deportation due to their lack of valid residency permits.

According to HRW's investigation, guards using rubber-coated metal rods are torturing and beating the migrants in severely overcrowded rooms.

The organisation documented at least three allegations of deaths in custody between October and November. HRW conducted interviews with seven Ethiopians under custody and two Indians facing deportation, all of whom recounted their confinement in cramped rooms alongside up to 350 others.

The report highlights the dire conditions faced by migrants in Saudi Arabia and calls for improved treatment and protections for detainees.

Saudi authorities have not taken any concrete action, despite repeated calls for investigations.

The bodies of 38 migrants, including children, have been recovered after a shipwreck off the Horn of Africa nation of Djibouti, the UN said Tuesday, the latest disaster on the so-called Eastern migration route.

The UN's International Organization for Migration told AFP that the boat was carrying 66 people when it sank in the early hours of Monday.

The tragedy took place just 200 metres (yards) off the coast of Godoria in the northeast of Djibouti, the agency said in an email to AFP.

"Thirty-eight bodies have been recovered. 22 survivors are being assisted by IOM and local authorities," IOM regional spokesperson Yvonne Ngede said.

She said those on the boat included women, children and babies and that most of them were believed to be Ethiopian nationals.

In a post on X accompanied by a picture of white body bags lined up on a beach, the IOM said at least six other people were missing and presumed dead after the "tragic shipwreck".

The Ethiopian embassy in Djibouti said the accident involved a boat carrying around 60 Ethiopian migrants from Djibouti to war-torn Yemen.

Each year, many tens of thousands of African migrants brave the perilous "Eastern Route" across the Red Sea and through war-scarred Yemen to reach Saudi Arabia, escaping conflict, or natural disaster or seeking better economic opportunities.

"On their journeys, many face life-threatening dangers including starvation, health risks and exploitation -– at the hands of human traffickers and other criminals," the IOM said in a statement in February.

- 'Putting themselves in grave danger' -

Africa's second most populous country, Ethiopia is blighted by various conflicts and several regions have suffered from severe drought in recent years.

More than 15 percent of its some 120 million inhabitants depend on food aid.

In February, the IOM said that according to its Missing Migrants Project at least 698 people, including women and children, had died crossing the Gulf of Aden from Djibouti to Yemen last year.

"This number could be higher considering some tragedies often go unnoticed," it said.

In November 2023, a shipwreck off the shores of Yemen left 64 migrants missing, presumed dead at sea, the agency added.

Ngede said that the migrants on the Eastern Route are mainly from Ethiopia and Somalia trying to reach Gulf nations, in particular Saudi Arabia.

"Many of them reach the border with KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) but don’t make it across. Thousands are stuck in Yemen."

In August last year, Human Rights Watch accused Saudi border guards of killing "at least hundreds" of Ethiopians trying to cross into the Gulf kingdom from Yemen between March 2022 and June 2023, using explosive weapons in some cases.

Speaking with Germany's Protestant Press Service (epd), Michael Fürst, president of the State Association of Jewish Communities in Lower-Saxony, offered a more ominous warning. Fürst pointed to the danger of simply repeating empty phrases claiming antisemitism has no place in Germany when it is clearly accepted, even furthered, by some at the heart of German society.

Fürst said, "we cannot look into a crystal ball, but it's a short step from throwing a Molotov cocktail at a Jewish institution to shooting Jewish congregants during a religious service."
