Where do people pile their dollars in the End Game? We got a sneak preview this week, twice, as Iran and Israel both pretended to start World War III with mutual pretend bombing raids on each other telegraphed days in advance to the entire solar system. Despite the obvious theater of it all, gold spiked to $3,000 on Saturday night on nerves as 300 missiles made their way to Israel at a drunken snail's pace. At the very same moment, bitcoin dumped by 10%. So there's that.

Meanwhile, UBS – the bank that took over Credit Suisse last year – needs a $25B bailout but they're not calling it that because it's a bad word. And in another lesson from the 1970s, the gold to silver ratio was stable from 1972 until we finally got to 1979, which Rafi thinks we are just about to repeat.

Vince Lanci has been covering the deluge of bank reports that have been upgrading their gold price targets. But today he looks at silver, and a bullish report by Citi that includes an upgrade to over $30 per ounce.

Keep in mind that outside of the spike to $50 in 1980 and the spike to $49 in 2011, silver has not traded above the $30 level, aside from a few hours during the silversqueeze in 2021. So it's a significant level, which has acted like a ceiling in the past few years, with silver trading right up to $30 several times but getting sent lower on each occasion.

Over the 2 year bear market in silver, one of the primary reasons the market struggled so much was that there was little investment by the institutional funds.

We've seen metal leaving the silver ETFs, and the #silverstocks were hit particularly hard by the lack of investment to the mining space. Leaving investors sitting and waiting for the interest (and capital) to return for almost two years.

But signs are emerging that the environment is beginning to change as the gold and silver prices have rallied. Day after day, gold reaches new highs. Silver, just crossing $29, is only now starting to catch up. The miners are still extremely cheap relative to the price of the precious metals that they mine, so while this rally in mining stacks has been nice, it is not that impressive. But it will be.

Once silver crosses $30, Rafi Farber thinks we'll be back in 1979, when the dollar almost collapsed last time. This time, though, it won't be almost. It will just be. That's because 93% of the value of the dollar is backed by debt that is quickly losing value as interest rates rise. That means, if they hike, the dollar falls. If they cut, the dollar falls. Logically, there can be no other possibility.

There was another hotter than expected CPI report yesterday, which normally would have sent gold and silver prices lower. As any inflationary readings would suggest the Federal Reserve would be less likely to lower interest rates sooner rather than later.

But while the metals did trade lower initially, they once again roared back and at one point were even higher than before the report came out. There was a lot of volatility throughout the session, and the metals did come down a bit. But similar to what we saw on Friday when the labor report was higher than expected, this is another significant divergence in the precious metals trading.

Gold dropped $25 before shooting $40 higher, while silver was down almost 50 cents, but then just a few hours later was a dollar higher from that low. Which has left many in the market wondering what's going on with the precious metals, in the midst of an incredibly tense time in the financial and geopolitical conditions of the world.
