Over the course of a single year, stretching from 2021 to 2022, the metropolitan area of New Orleans witnessed a shocking decline in residents, with a loss of over fifteen thousand individuals. This rate of depopulation surprisingly surpassed the speed of the prior year's decrease, sketching a somewhat alarming image of the city's demographic tendencies. In the New Orleans metro area, there's been a significant shift in the racial composition over the years. The Black and White residents, who once formed a considerable chunk of the population, have seen a steady decrease. On the other hand, the Hispanic community is on the rise. Since 2006, the Hispanic population has shown consistent growth, representing ten percent of the total population as of 2022. Among them, Hondurans are the largest Hispanic group, a fascinating aspect of the demographic dynamics in the region. But that's not all. The age distribution of the population has undergone changes too. The median age in the metro area has risen to a substantial thirty-nine and a half years as of 2022, pointing to an ageing population.

New Orleans crime has become a major topic in the news which isn’t surprising when the number of stolen cars has almost doubled in a year. That's New Orleans for you in which is a city famous for jazz, Mardi Gras and now, unfortunately, a staggering rise in auto theft. In the span of a single year, from 2022 to 2023, the reported cases of stolen cars in New Orleans rocketed from two thousand eight hundred and thirty-nine to a jaw-dropping five thousand six hundred and twenty-nine. That's a whopping ninety-eight percent increase. Picture that for a moment. Beyond just auto theft, New Orleans has a serious problem with violent crime, particularly homicide. Armed robbery incidents have also surged, with two hundred and ninety-two incidents reported. Homicides, nonfatal shootings, armed robberies, all of which are not isolated incidents, but part of a larger pattern of violence. The city has been grappling with a surge in carjacking incidents. Increases in other criminal offenses range from burglary to vandalism which impact residents in various ways. Theft, break-ins, and defacing can lead to lost profits, higher insurance costs, and the potential shutdown of businesses that provide jobs and contribute to the local economy. What is to be done in these challenging times?

We recently experienced another flooding event in New Orleans on April 9th, 2024 that caused significant flooding across the area. In many ways New Orleans is literally a sinking city so lets learn more about the history of New Orleans flooding and the pump system. Did you know that New Orleans experiences an average of sixty rainy days per year? Not just a little drizzle, but substantial rainfall that, at times, overwhelms the city's infrastructure. Situated in a unique geographical position, the city lies below sea level, making it particularly susceptible to flooding. This vulnerability is not a recent development, but rather a chronic issue that the city has grappled with for centuries. In fact, the frequency of flooding in New Orleans has been a persistent concern, impacting the city's infrastructure, economy, and the daily lives of its residents. Flooding is more than an inconvenience; it's a destructive force, disrupting businesses, damaging homes, and creating hazardous conditions. The city's unique position also presents a significant challenge to its drainage system. When it rains, the water has nowhere to go but up, resulting in widespread street flooding. This has been further exacerbated in recent years by issues with the city's Sewerage & Water Board's power supply, which hinders the effectiveness of the drainage system. The city's struggle with water is not a new phenomenon, but a centuries-old battle.

In this episode of our New Orleans travel vlog we are at Francolini’s Italian Deli on a travel search for the best sandwich options in the New Orleans area. Francolini’s Italian Deli is a New Orleans sandwich shop making sandwiches the New Jersey way which is located in the Uptown area of New Orleans at 3987 Tchoupitoulas Street which is about 12 minutes and 4 miles away from the New Orleans French Quarter. Francolini’s Italian Deli opened in the summer of 2023 and has been extremely busy ever since. New Orleans has a lot of great food and that also includes some of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten anywhere so I don’t usually have to travel for best sandwiches options that I already know about that are some of my favorites. I might go so far as to say that New Orleans might have the best sandwiches in the USA to my taste and offers many great sandwiches but first we feast on a New Jersey Yankee sandwich here at Francolini’s Italian Deli to experience what could be one of the USA’s best sandwich candidates but we will let you judge that for yourself. I am constantly asking where is the best sandwich and who has the best sandwich and often I find the best sandwiches are still found in New Orleans so we will eat with me sandwich perfection so let’s get started with a sandwich eat with me on our travel vlog.

A non-sponsored product review of the collaboration African Ranger Boot done between Jim Green Footwear and the Rose Anvil YouTube Channel. The original model of Jim Green’s African Ranger Boot has lots of great reviews about it along with many of their other boots while there are only a very few reviews of the relatively new barefoot version of the African Ranger Boot. Jim Green Footwear is a South African company the focuses on top quality products which are designed for serious outdoor applications and they many positive reviews which have praised their hard use experiences. The Rose Anvil YouTube Channel is noted for cutting boots in half to discover how well they are made and this has led to some excellent understanding of the differences between mediocre footwear and fantastic footwear. This is my first experience with Jim Green Footwear but I have had experience visiting South Africa previously where I discovered some really high quality products. My initial impression of the Rose Anvil & Jim Green Footwear African Ranger Boot Collaboration was that these boots were visually appealing and seemed to be very well made. After several months of wearing the boots and taking them out in different environments between rural and urban areas I also found these were very tough and high quality boots that could stand up to hard use. These were also extremely comfortable boots that I have easily put many miles on as well. Watch the video to see my final verdict on the Rose Anvil & Jim Green African Ranger Barefoot Boot Collaboration. Link to purchase Jim Green Footwear’s Barefoot African Ranger is: https://amzn.to/3U0LPgp

On a recent trip to Oxford, MS and Ole Miss I took some friends on a tour of the area and we stopped into Pizza Den, a unique Italian joint, for an authentic Ole Miss experience in a classic restaurant that has been serving Ole Miss and Oxford since the 60's. Pizza Den has been offering delicious Italian food for decades and has been a popular place for Oxford pizza and Ole Miss pizza fans. Pizza Den is packed with Ole Miss sports memorabilia. We also took a look at the Oxford Square and paid our respects at the grave of William Faulkner. My friends got a pizza and I had spaghetti along with getting a large take out box with most of the rest of their menu including the stromboli, a roast beef po boy, a turkey po boy, a beef ravioli and a lasagna. Pizza Den uses Gambino's French Bread from New Orleans, LA so I ended up with a box that shipped the bread that had just come from New Orleans to pack my to go order in to return to New Orleans. This video will do a food review of nearly the entire menu of Pizza Den.

In this episode of our New Orleans travel vlog we visit D.P. Dough for our restaurant review videos to experience their calzones. D.P. Dough is a national chain with the first D.P. Dough opening in 1987 and they currently are located in twenty-seven locations across the United States. There are two D.P. Dough locations in New Orleans with one in the French Quarter and the one we are visiting which is located at 5010 Freret Street which is about 12 minutes and 4 miles away from the New Orleans French Quarter. When you are looking for where to eat late night food in New Orleans there used to be a lot of great options but these days we have only a few late night spots left and D.P. Dough stays open until 4am. D.P. Dough is known for their calzones, wings, cheese sticks and tater tots. So if you find yourself in need of some late night food D.P. Dough might be a decent place to enjoy a meal.

We explore some country roads and take a look at some old barns on some back roads that are slowly falling apart. Not so long ago there used to be a LOT more barns on unpaved roads like this out on many country roads but so many have totally disappeared or fallen into decomposing piles due to long neglect. It is a very sad thing as I can remember so many barns like this being in active use back in my younger days.
