When I travel, like most people, I like to photograph my experiences. However, I think at times people can get too caught up with photographing their surroundings as opposed to taking them in with their own eyes. These days when I travel I like to do something I call a "Time Lapse Travel Log". In order to get a time lapse shot, I need to take numerous photos. Working with RAW files, I can only take a limited amount of photos. I look at each shot in the video as a 'photo'. In a way, I think of it as having a 35mm camera with just one roll of film. I need to only take the shots that I like or the shots that matter. Since it takes a while to get one 'shot' or 'scene', I get the luxury of taking in the surroundings and it forces me to take a moment to slow down, as opposed to hurrying around to see as many sights and places as possible.

These shots were captured in Fukuoka and Kokura, Japan in April 2015.

All of these time lapse shots are 4K ready. For any inquires about these time lapse shots, or any others, please contact me at '[email protected]' or at +82 10.2481.1722. I am based in Seoul, South Korea. smukalla.com

This is the fifth of my 'Time Lapse Travel Log' videos, and the second one for Tokyo. While I was capturing these images in October 2015, I wanted to capture a different feeling of Tokyo. Tokyo is the largest city in the world, but to me the charm comes from the textures of the city. What I really love in Tokyo are the smaller side streets that are right around the corner of the main bustling hubs of the city, and the tight alleys that link them together. I also enjoy observing people moving around throughout their day to day routines.

With this Time Lapse Travel Log I wanted to capture the feeling I get in Tokyo when I am walking around and exploring. Tokyo is full of a wide array of colors mixed together, but I wanted to strip away colors that can be distracting, to focus on the feeling of the city itself.

Instead of capturing what makes Tokyo flashy and unique, I wanted to capture its character and feeling.

Camera: Sony a99
Lens: Sony SAL 28mm f/2.8

All images were captured with a 28mm lens at f/2.8. All exposures were 2 seconds long, and taken right after each other. The ISO ranged from 50, 100, to 200ISO. Photos were edited with Adobe Lightroom, and rendered together with LRTimeLapse. Video was edited on Adobe Premiere Pro CC.

In this case, I had one day and night in Macau. I arrived Monday evening, and left Tuesday evening. I also rationed my SD card space since before Macau I was in Beijing (vimeo.com/115081419). Yeah yeah SD cards are cheap and I could buy many more, but being slightly limited forces me to think about what shot I will get, and if it is worth it to me.
