Here is a little tip I recently encountered when I was looking at my blackberry plant. Three stems had grown off of the main stem and looked like they were just laying on the ground and I came to find out that they had actually sprouted roots and therefore I was able to make four new blackberry plants and plant them in different locations. If you are looking to propagate your blackberry plant then watch how I did it.

Prepping the soil with cover crops to get the soil ready for Spring & Summer planting.
If you haven’t been cover cropping it’s never too late to start. I forget sometimes but today we are going to go over my method of prepping the soil with cover crops.
So let’s look at the benefits of cover cropping first:
1. Builds the earthworm population
2. Improves Soil Aeration
3. Amplifies No Till Method
4. Reduces Erosion
5. Takes Time
6. Increases Soil Biology
7. Cuts Thru Compacted Soil
8. Suppressed diseases, pests and weeds
A cover crop provides a natural means of suppressing soil diseases and pests. It can also serve as a mulch or cover to prevent weed growth. Certain cover crops, such as clovers, field peas and beans, add nitrogen to the soil, reducing the need for nitrogen fertilizer, which could have environmental impacts, and lowering costs of production. . Deep tap roots of some cover crops grown in the fall and spring penetrate compacted soil layers, improving drainage while conducting more moisture deeper in the profile. A cover crop can provide high-quality material for grazing livestock or haying, and can provide habitat for beneficial insects and pollinators, such as grasses like rye & wheat along with triticale a mustard blend.
A cover crop stores nutrients from manure, mineralized organic nitrogen or underutilized fertilizer until the next crop can utilize them, reducing nutrient runoff and leaching.

This is just the beginning of what cover crops can actually do to your soil.
I have been cover cropping in earnest since last year and there is a difference in my soil, small but it is there. It does take time.

I also have some tips that you might want to try. If you have a fruit tree that is NOT producing fruit you may want to start cover cropping. If the tree doesn’t have fruit it can only mean a few things: The soil is depleted or it’s the wrong place to put it. We have a little time left to experiment with our soil and the areas where we want to plant so don’t waste the time and get to it.
I am going to do a new experiment with my mango tree because I have had it for over 3 years now and it is still not making fruit so I’m going to do cover cropping around the outside of the tree to see if I can bring more nutrients or the ones lacking to make fruit to the tree’s root system area and maybe I will get fruit, will start that experiment today.

3. Lay down contractor paper and wet it.
4. I lay down sometimes compost or you can lay your wood chips right on top of the paper.

If you look at the vegetables and fruit you get in the food stores you will see them come from South America. But I have to tell you that if a cluster of grapes has to come by way of Chile to Florida and still have a flavor what exactly are they doing to it? Not to mention food just tastes horrible today. Hello and welcome To The Impatient Gardner.This channel is primarily going to focus on Gardening, both regular dirt, hydroponics and my new venture of Back To Eden episodes. If you have any sort of thinking cap on you will know that the Midwest has had numerous floods this year and the weather in other parts of the country are getting bad as well. This means that their planting season is not starting either at all or very late. If you look at the vegetables and fruit you get in the food stores you will see them come from South America. But I have to tell you that if a cluster of grapes has to come by way of Chile to Florida and still have a flavor what exactly are they doing to it? Not to mention food just tastes horrible today. But if you don't care what your food tastes like then you shouldn't be watching this. I love Brian from High Impact Flix on one of his T-shirts it says with a picture of Macdonald's "East Fast and Die Young!" If you have any ecological concerns about either the weather or where your food comes from then it might be time to start planting a "FOOD FOREST" to grow your own food and be able to feed yourself. This is not a fast process as I have found out hence my channel name, but if I can do it then hopefully my videos will inspire you to do yours. I am not saying that my ideas are right for everyone but this is what works for me. I do appreciate other gardeners who have done similar experiments and am always open to new ideas so just leave your comments below. I do live in Florida and I wanted to show you how to prepare to grow your own food. I am also now buying seeds from "Fedco Seeds." I also want to try Baker Creek when the time comes. But I haven't opened them yet because my soil is not ready but I was very disappointed in My Patriot Supply seeds because they had an expiration date. For some reason I didn't think seeds had an expiration date did you? If so then all the seeds in the "so called Seed Vault" somewhere in the Netherlands has to be replaced every 2 years? I didn't think so. So do make sure that the seeds you are buying are not going go to bad before you get them in the ground and of course NO GMO seeds!!!

Does Back To Eden Work For You?

In this video I show you how I am managing in Zone 10 with Back To Eden style of gardening and the problems I have come across and how to fix them. If you are growing in Zone 10 with Back To Eden then do let me know how you have fared and what else I might consider doing? This is a short video on how well sweet potatoes do when growing in the style of Back To Eden. Take a sweet potato that is NOT GMO and bury in the ground, cover with brown, green and black layers like a lasagna. Water it and then sit back and watch nature at it's finest. If you have rabbits then you will loose the leaves so it is best to trellis it or encase it if on the ground. The leaves can also be used a "cover crop." Enjoy! Get to growing food!
I love the idea of “Cover Cropping” after having watched the documentary called “Living Soil,” along with the film “Back To Eden,” I believe that with “Cover Cropping” your soil will get healthier.

1. Prepare your area.
2. Take out weeds and grass.
3. Lay down contractor paper and wet it.
4. I lay down green material, then brown material, wood ash if you have it or dark manure of any kind then repeat the process. On top of this lasagna style method put your woodchips, the smaller the better!
5. Wait...........and wait and wait………………………….lololo
6. To speed up the process add to your soil, food scraps and cardboard that is shredded.
7. Try some Cover Cropping until your soil is healthy.

In this video I cover my planting method of using cover crops to fix soil health which can be used for small and large areas as well as a raised bed.
A Raised Garden Bed is the best way to start your garden if you want to grow your own food and a way to become self sufficient. Great for someone who wants to start small and then progress to bigger and is also a good way to practice growing different crops.

✅ Materials Used:
1. 16 pieces of 2” x 6” x 4ft (6 inches high)
2. 16 Interlocking Stones/ Use rebar to poke hole open on the bottom of the interlocking stone.
3. 4 Pieces of Rebar, one is 36” and the other 3 were 2ft. I am planning on making the bed higher that is why I tried the 36’ Rebar.
4. Cardboard for the bottom layer.

5. My mistake was NOT TAKING OUT ALL GRASS! If you do not want grass growing in your bed no matter the height then I would suggest taking out ALL of the grass.

6. Branches, whole or chopped up.

7. Bag of Sphagnum Peat Moss for aeration or vermiculite or perlite.

8. 2 Bags of Compost/Cow Manure – You can use whatever your store has or if you live on a farm use from Chicken Coup. One bag goes on top of branches / Logs if you have them.

9. Real Wood-Chips with some Topsoil.

10. Level / Mallet (not necessary)

11. Constructing the box is as easy as laying down a corner stone and then inserting a 2 x 4 into each side.

12. Linseed Oil to Naturally Seal the Wood. Can be applied after the box is built or can be done before you put the wood on the ground.

13. Seeds to Plant. Layer all above materials inside the Raised Bed after your bed has been constructed.

In this video you will see my final finished journey that I took to grow the final product. And while it did not have the ordinary color and netting that you see on a Cantaloupe, which I am not surprised at, it did not taste bad, not sweet enough for me but with a little sugar it tasted great!...lolol

I try to take out all the grass and weeds before laying paper down.
Some people say that you have to add manure or dirt on top of the wood-chips or paper but I only lay down contractor paper first then wet it and then lay the wood chips down. I don’t have chickens or cows so I use what I have.
Everything is growing like crazy just with the method I use.
Everyone has their own way of doing things this is mine. You don’t have to do it like I do but am just showing you how it can be done.

Having insect/pest infestations? Sometimes you want a natural answer instead of using chemicals or even Neem Oil?
This is as simple as finding the natural predator to your particular bug problem. You might have better luck than I do because this is my 4th time of releasing Lady Bugs and they don’t stay around very long…lolol
I also have tried the “Lacewings,” the “Praying Mantis Eggs,” and “The Rove Beetle.” Nothing really seems to have worked for me but maybe I just don’t see them at work…lolol
