This letter was made famous in Ken Burns' famous documentary event "The Civil War". It is titled "Dear Sarah" and was written by my 2nd great uncle, Sullivan Ballou, a Major in the Rhode Island Volunteers. It is as romantic as "good bye in case I die" letters can ever be. After he was killed, Sullivan's body was horribly defiled and displayed as war is hell and can drive people to do unspeakable things. Yet, the powers that be in this world keep plunging populations into war for their own selfish desires of ever more money and power.
I hope one day The People can force them to stop that horrific behavior.
