Metalizer (1998, PC)

A real-time, yet hexfield-based strategy game. It was made by German developer Independent Arts Software for Greenwood Entertainment. You play as Val Gordon, whose planet is attacked by ruthless mech pilots in search of a dimensional gate. Val is able obtain a mech on his own and sets out to defeat the attackers.
You start of alone with a single mech. During the game, you can hire additional pilots for your team and purchase different mechs. During missions, the game runs in real-time, but you can stop the time at any moment to give orders. For example, you can fire weapons at targets or move the mech's turret. Movement is by field. You set a point of destination, and the mech will go there when time is running. Every movement of one field takes up a certain amount of game time before it is executed. It also takes time for your weapons to reload after firing. Firing weapons also increases the heat in the reactor, which also cools down again over time. If the reactor gets heated up too much, it will shut down for a period of time.
