Edit (Sullivan) for headphones, October 2021. The Rolling Stones on the Ed Sullivan show. Brian Jones played slide guitar AND harmonica on the studio version. Brian's outstanding musical capabilities made this song to this day the only time a blues song has ever topped the British pop charts: it reached number one in the UK Singles Chart on december 5, 1964 where it stayed for one week.
The studio version of "Little Red Rooster" was recorded September 2, 1964, at Regent Sound in London. Others state that it was recorded at the Chess studio's in Chicago, which I doubt, for in that studio several outstanding early Rolling Stones songs were recorded in true stereo.
Released as a UK single on November 13, 1964. Released in the US on the album "The Rolling Stones Now" on February 12, 1965. Released November 4, 1966 on the album "Big Hits (High Tide And Green Grass)".
Electric slide guitar & harmonica: Brian Jones. Vocals: Mick Jagger. Acoustic guitar: Keith Richards. Drums: Charlie Watts. Bass: Bill Wyman.
LITTLE RED ROOSTER
(Willie Dixon)
I am the little red rooster
too lazy to crow for day
I am the little red rooster
too lazy to crow for day
keep everything in the farm yard upset in every way
the dogs begin to bark and hounds begin to howl
dogs begin to bark and hounds begin to howl
watch out strange cat people
little red rooster's on the prowl
if you see my little red rooster
please drive him home
if you see my little red rooster
please drive him home
ain't had no peace in the farm yard
since my little red rooster's been gone
