This text-based visual novel adventure developed and published by Square in 1996 for the Japanese Super Famicom's Satellaview has only recently had an official release outside of Japan. On April 7, 2022 it was released as a bundle in Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition. My particular interest is in the compositions by Yasunori Mitsuda. With MIDI files, soundfonts and VSTs, we can compare between chip tune sounds and other ways to orchestrate this song, as close to its original piece, to any sort of way you might want to re-arrange things. For now, I chose to compare the chiptune style as it might be heard on the SNES/Super Famicom, and then open it up to more realistic sounding instruments. If you want to hear just the orchestral version, you can skip to 2:40.
