Lets Go To The Party

i know its a short walk
but lets run
i hate missing any fun
i'm workin' on a new one
called crowds give me the blues, hon
and i wrote a book and it starts:
whats wrong with my heart
and whats up with my mind?
did i get into some black old
green slime?
would you be my valentine?
i wrote a joke and it rhymes
with whats up with these hard times
(wait til you hear the punchline)
because i've been lost for so long
which turns did i take wrong?
been sleepin under spruce trees
with needles stickin my knees
but i've been saving my dimes
up to buy some turpentine
a little bit'd heal ya
take too much'd kill ya
and lots of things are like that
bad weeds and good cracks
and i've been straining my back
whittling whistles out of tamaracks
i gathered sticks and found runes
arranged them into new tunes
and i made something to show you
from twigs and moss and toadstools
and i hope you think that its cool
because i made it with no school
and i built it with no tools
but after about three days
of seeking out them good rays
i've been dodging shadows
and goin where the sun glows
but every time the wind blows
makes me miss my woodstove
and makes me miss my quilt, oh
like every stitch that she'd sewn!
and if i ever get home
i'll build up some hedgerows
what i hide you won't know
because they invented windows
to see inside of my home
but its good to know where i'm goin
they'll present me with pine cones
for thinkin (thinkin) thought crimes
for whispering like windchimes:
'what's a fruitless grapevine
to he who bottles fine wine?'
i'm still workin on that new one
the moon is just a blue sun
