How To Teach the Double Down-Dog Training Help

A video from my Petaluma, CA seminar demonstrating how i teach anxious dogs the "double down." The double down gets the dog's body into a relaxed position, which in turn gets the mind to relax as well. This is sometimes one of the very first things we teach overly aroused/anxious dogs. This is the state of mind training that we focus so heavily on. We see so many dogs with brilliant obedience, but their behavior is far from good. We focus on the dog holistically to create an obedient dog with a calm mindset. This allows a dog to actually go places and do things with its owner. We teach this entire command with the remote collar. Once the dog knows "down" the rest is usually pretty quick to teach. I apply low level continuous stim on the remote, and historically the dog will just put its head down on its own. Sometimes they need some help with a verbal "down" or leash pressure. In the early stages we help the dog any way we can, but eventually we phase that out and rely on just the remote collar. We have done this thousands of times on thousands of dogs, and every time we get the same result: a calmer dog, a less anxious dog, and a dog that becomes less aroused around environmentals. Every single dog can benefit from learning this command.
