The Book of Enoch, like the Book of Daniel, was written originally partly in Aramaic and partly in Hebrew. From an Aramaic original is derived 6-36, and possibly 83-90, while the rest of the book comes from a Hebrew original. To determine these questions categorically is a task of no little difficulty, seeing that for four-fifths of the text we have only a translation of a translation, and that such close affinities exist between Hebrew and Aramaic.

Nearly all the writers of the New Testament were familiar with it, and were more or less influenced by it in thought and diction. It is quoted as a genuine production of Enoch by St. Jude, and as Scripture by St. Barnabas. The authors of the Book of Jubilees, the Apocalypse of Baruch, and 4 Ezra (2 Esdras), laid it under contribution. With the earlier Fathers and Apologists it had all the weight of a canonical book.

Ezra was a prophet, priest and scribe, counted worthy to speak with the Most High Creator, who asks all the tough questions and gets answers that are as surprising as they are revealing and comforting.

ESDRAS is the Graecized form (Εσδρας) of the name of the scribe EZRA, used throughout the Apocrypha.

The object of this book was to comfort the chosen people of God who were suffering under the grinding oppression of the heathen, by assuring them that the Lord has appointed a time of deliverance when the oppressors shall be judged, and the ten tribes of Israel, in union with their brethren, shall return to the Holy Land to enjoy a glorious kingdom which shall be established in the days of the Messiah. This is gradually developed in an introduction, and Seven angelic revelations, or visions, in which Ezra is instructed in the mysteries of the moral world.

In several manuscripts of the Latin Vulgate, as well as in all the printed editions anterior to the decree of the Council of Trent, and in many since that period, there will be found four books following each other, entitled the 1st, 2d, 3d, and 4th books of Ezra. The first two are the canonical books of Ezra and Nehemiah, the 3d and 4th are the same which are called 1st and 2d Esdras in the English Authorized Version.

In the 1980s I met a woman who claimed to have been hunted down by Satanists who were going to use her as a sacrifice. She said she climbed a tree in order to evade them and survived. She then suffered the psychological consequences of this horrific ordeal and was committed to mental institutions for several years. At the time I met her, she was living safely with her husband, but showed signs of instability associated with this and possible other events.

I have not done any serious research on this topic and don't make any claims as to the truth or falsehood of the content of this interview; however, I believe the descriptions of SRA are accurate.
