Terrifying Injury Leads to NBA Player Being Hospitalized Oklahoma City Thunder center Nerlens Noel took a horrible blow to the head in Tuesday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Noel was writhing in pain on the court, unable to get up. He had to be taken off the court on a stretcher. Andrew Wiggins “Just pray for him is all you can do,” Thunder guard Terrance Ferguson told News OK. “Just send prayers up and hopefully that he’s all fine.

90-Year-Old Stripped of World Record After Failing Anti-Doping Test Cycling has had its share of doping scandals over the years, but never one quite like this. Carl Grove, a 90-year old from Bristol, Indiana, competing in the U.S. Masters Track Championships, tested positive for a banned substance after the race last July. Grove tested positive for epitrenbolone, a metabolite of the prohibited substance trenbolone. Grove had set the record at that competition on July 11, 2018, in his age group — 90 to 94. The good news is that he won’t be suspended so he has a chance to go for the record again this year — at age 91.

Ex-NBA MVP Follows Up After Telling Fans To 'Kill Yourself'

ESPN Analyst Says Fans Are Jealous, Not Bored, of Alabama-Clemson Sequels Clemson squares off against Alabama for the national championship in college football Monday night for the third time in the last four years. This year, Alabama is ranked No. 1 and Clemson is No. 2, so, obviously … Clemson will win … as the No. 1 ranked teams have not fared well in the matchups. However, many fans are not enthused by the prospect of seeing these two teams in the championship game again “So if you’re tired of it, then ask your coaches to raise the bar and change the narrative of these teams getting together every year for the championship,” Herbstreit is not afraid to defend his positions on Twitter, in fact he relishes the Twitter battles. Kickoff is tonight at 8:00 PM. Will you be watching?

Struggling MLB Team Outright Eliminates Upper Deck, Reduces Capacity It seems that ever since the Tampa Bay Rays came into existence as the Devil Rays some 20 years ago, the team has struggled with attendance. In part because of that, the Rays are making efforts to mask some of those low attendance issues by eliminating all upper-deck seating at Tropicana Field for the 2019 season. This will reduce the capacity of Tropicana Field by more than 5,000 seats to approximately 25,000 to 26,000. No other MLB stadium has a seating capacity below 35,000. The only stadium with a lower average attendance than Tropicana Field’s 14,258 was the other Florida ballpark, Marlins Park, which had 10,013. Rays president Matt Silverman The team also announced it would be creating “more social gathering spaces with the creation of the Left Field Ledge, which will include a full-service bar, ledge tables and seated drink rails.” Poor attendance at Tropicana Field isn’t just a recent thing; the Rays have struggled with home attendance since the inception of the team in 1998. Just last week, Rays player Tommy Pham, who spent his first four-and-a-half seasons in St. Louis before being traded to Tampa Bay, blasted the Rays’ fan base by saying it doesn’t exist. Even with a new ballpark, there’s no guarantee that fans will show up. As the attendance numbers for the Rays and Marlins show, MLB hasn’t really caught on in Florida.

Champ Bailey, Ed Reed and Tony Gonzalez Among 2019 HOF Finalists Bailey, Reed and Gonzalez represent the strongest crop of potential first-ballot Hall of Famers since … well, since last year, when Ray Lewis, Brian Urlacher and Randy Moss all were voted in Bailey is one of the best defensive backs in recent memory in his 15 years with the Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos. Reed was, along with Baltimore Ravens teammate Lewis, the heart and soul of one of the greatest team defenses ever, an unparalleled ball hawk and playmaker. Gonzalez holds the record for yards and receptions by a tight end, his 1,325 career catches with Kansas City and Atlanta trailing only Jerry Rice, full stop.
The committee will meet on Feb. 2, the day before the Super Bowl, to make their decisions on who will be called upon to give a speech in the summer sunshine of Canton, Ohio, come July.

NFL Enters Multiyear Deal with Its First Official Casino Sponsor The NFL entered a partnership with Caesars Entertainment on Thursday, making it the league’s first official casino sponsor. The arrangement begins with this weekend’s playoffs and is worth $30 million annually for three years, a person with knowledge of the agreement told The Associated Press. This latest development is part of a dizzying turnabout for the league. For years, the league insisted gambling was one of the biggest threats to its existence. Caesars will host parts of the 2020 draft. The Cowboys, Ravens, Saints, Falcons, Eagles, Bears, Raiders, Jets, Lions and Seahawks already have advertising agreements with casinos. With the expansion of sports betting to other states made possible by last year’s Supreme Court ruling, other gambling companies have reached partnerships with leagues. Last year, MGM Resorts became the official gambling partner of the NBA, the NHL and Major League Baseball. Things began changing in 2017 when the NHL put a team in Las Vegas, the first major sports franchise for the city. They changed even more when the city lured the Raiders beginning in 2020 with a $1.9 billion stadium built across the freeway from the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino.

DeAndre Hopkins Goes Above and Beyond, Pledges Game Check to Family of Slain Young Girl It has been widely known in NFL circles that DeAndre Hopkins is one of the best receivers in the league. But now people are starting to realize that the Texans star is also one of the best people in the league. Ahead of the Texans’ wild-card playoff game Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts, Hopkins posted on social media that he is donating his playoff check to help the family of a slain 7-year-old girl in Houston. Hopkins is donating his $29,000 playoff check to help cover the funeral costs for Jazmine Barnes. He also said he would join in an effort to bring the little girl’s killer to justice. DeAndre Hopkins Jazmine was killed Sunday morning during a routine breakfast run for her mother. LaPorsha Washington took Jazmine and her three sisters to get coffee and juice when someone pulled up alongside their vehicle and began firing. The situation hit close to home for Hopkins, who has a young daughter of his own. Hopkins isn’t the only notable athlete who has pitched in to help Jazmine’s family; NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal dropped off a check at the church where her funeral is set to take place. The unidentified gunman is described as a white man in his 40s. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the shooting “just seems to be random,” HuffPost reported. The reward for information leading to the killer’s arrest has been increased to $100,000.

NFL Star Reuben Foster Has Domestic Violence Charges Abruptly Dropped Court documents obtained by TMZ Sports on Thursday show that pending domestic abuse charges against Washington Redskins linebacker Reuben Foster have been abruptly dropped.
It’s unclear why the charges were dropped. Foster was scheduled to appear at an arraignment in Florida on Thursday before the notice of termination of prosecution was filed. The misdemeanor charges stemmed from an incident on Nov. 24 that led the San Francisco 49ers to release the former first-round pick the next day. Foster’s ex-girlfriend, Elissa Ennis, alleged that Foster slapped her and broke her phone at the 49ers’ team hotel in Tampa. Foster’s attorney told TMZ that he believes the case was dropped due to credibility issues with Ennis. Ennis then testified under oath that she fabricated the story “as a money scheme.” He was then placed on the commissioner’s exempt list, which prevents him from playing until the league’s investigation is complete. Redskins coach Jay Gruden said that even though the team took a chance on Foster, it’s uncertain that he will ever see the field.

Ex-NBA Coach Calls Stephen A. Smith ‘Clueless at Basketball’ over Wild Hot Take Former Cleveland Cavaliers coach David Blatt called out ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith on for a take he delivered before last year’s NBA Draft. David Blatt Smith did indeed endorse Arizona center DeAndre Ayton as the No. 1 pick on his show last June. Now, Luka Doncic has been spectacular, and is the front runner to win the Rookie of the Year award.Just 19 years old, Doncic leads the team in scoring with 19.5 points per game. But Ayton has been pretty good, too. He’s averaging 17 points and 11 rebounds per game. The Suns have not been as good as the Mavs, mired with the worst record in the league at 9-30. Despite many saying that Doncic was one of the best prospects in this or any draft over the last 20 years, the GMs might have been understandly gun shy While Doncic looks like he could be a generational talent and multiple-time all-star, he’s only halfway into his first NBA season. Only time will tell how this draft pans out.

The Highest-Paid NFL Quarterbacks Failed Miserably This Season Giving quarterbacks big money doesn’t guarantee success or even playoff appearances. The NFL’s six highest-paid quarterbacks in 2018 will be spectators this postseason. Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers ($33.5 million) Atlanta’s Matt Ryan ($30 million) Minnesota’s Kirk Cousins ($28 million) San Francisco’s Jimmy Garoppolo ($27.5 million) Detroit’s Matthew Stafford ($27 million) Oakland’s Derek Carr ($25 million) All couldn’t lead their teams to the playoffs. Among the 12 starting quarterbacks still playing, six are still under their rookie contract and another — Nick Foles — is a backup. New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees broke his own record with a 74.4 completion percentage, the highest in a season in NFL history. Four quarterbacks will make their postseason debut as starters. Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson, Chicago’s Mitchell Trubisky and Houston’s Deshaun Watson play this weekend. Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes has a bye. The 21-year-old Jackson will be the youngest quarterback ever to start a playoff game.

Tim Tebow Opens Up About Relationship with His Brother To Promote Their New Movie Tim Tebow can now add “filmmaker” and “executive producer” to his already hefty resume with the upcoming release of “Run the Race.” In typical Tim Tebow fashion, he revealed that filmmaking wasn’t something that interested him until he found a reason to pursue it. But what elevates this particular project above merely being another feather in his cap is the way the movie touches on Tim’s relationship with his older brother, Robby Tebow. “There are a lot of similarities in my life between two brothers supporting one another, having each other’s back, believing in one another,” Tebow told USA Today. To help promote the movie, Tim filmed some humorous vignettes with Robby that also shed light into Tim’s family life. But the most poignant vignette so far is one where several clips from “Run the Race” are shown. “Knowing how much the God of this universe loves you changes everything,” Tebow tweeted. “Run the Race” will be in theaters on Feb. 22.

Tom Brady Loses Out on Millions After Betting on Himself New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady negotiated $5 million in incentives into his $15 million per year salary before the start of the season. The 41-year-old Brady did not hit any of the five incentives after having a subpar year, at least by his lofty standards. He agreed to the incentives, which required him to finish in the top five in the following categories: passer rating, completion percentage, yards per attempt, touchdown passes and passing yards. Brady’s numbers weren’t that far off his 2017 stats. But he did not keep pace with the numbers that many of the league’s gunslingers were putting up in 2018. At 41, it’s only it’s only a matter of time before Brady slows down. But now that it’s playoff time, it could be unwise to bet against the five-time Super Bowl champion.

Yankees Add 5-Time All-Star as Battle for Machado Continues The New York Yankees added some infield depth by coming to terms with veteran shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. Tulowitzki will no doubt be counted on to fill in while New York starting shortstop Didi Gregorius recovers from Tommy John surgery. But where does that leave that other shortstop the Yankees are rumored to be interested in — Manny Machado? The Yankees continue to be among the favorites to sign the 26-year-old four-time All-Star, according to ESPN. Machado could be moved to third base once Gregorius comes back, but the Yankees have rookie star Michael Andujar at third. Or the long-term plan might be to play Machado at short and let go of Gregorius, 28, after this season when he is a free agent. Or perhaps the Yankees are getting cold feet about plunking down $300 million to $400 million on Machado and want Tulowitzki as insurance. Sources say no, this move does not mean they are moving on from Machado, but only time will tell where he winds up. Tulowitzki, 34, is a five-time All-Star who has spent most of the last two years with the Blue Jays on the injured list.
