Hydrogen seems to be the latest health craze and so I thought I'd give it a try. Althy products in this field seem well respected and I found this model widely available for less than £40 on AliExpress although it is currently priced on Amazon at £87 or direct from Althy for £113.67.
In the rather impressive and upmarket box, you receive the unit itself, a USB-C charging cable, an external bottle adapter, a breathing tube set and a user guide. Build quality all seems first rate with the base and top of the unit made from robust plastic and the 380ml bottle from glass.
This unit uses an SPE(Solid Polymer Electrolyte) + PEM(Proton Exchange Membrane) DUPONT N117 membrane which produces hydrogen through electrolysis. , It puts only pure H2 into the water, and Oxygen(O2), Ozone(O3) Chlorine(CL2) are separated are vented out through the base.
According to the Althy website, almost any type of clean water can be used including tap water, but I only use boiled tap water or bottled water with it. Some older and cheaper rivals do not separate chlorine and other inert gases from the water and cause them to be released into the water.
This device generates hydrogen that can be ingested in three ways. The internal glass bottle can be used to add hydrogen to water which can then be decanted and drank. An external spring water bottle can be attached to the base of the unit and the hydrogen added to it. The device comes with a lightweight tube set which can be attached to the top of the unit and the hydrogen gas consumed with air using the nasal cannula.
To use the unit with the internal bottle, fill the bottle up to about 80% or less - space needs to be left to allow space for the gas - and press the button on the underside of the unit. Press the button once: to enter 3-minute mode (blue light shows) and it produces between 900ppb ~ 1200ppb (parts per billion) of hydrogen. Press the button twice: for 10-minute mode (blue light shows) to generate 1500ppb ~ 1800ppb. I have read elsewhere not to use ten minute mode more than twice but looking at the Althy website for this model it says to use 10-minute mode for 2 times for 2000ppb ~ 3000ppb. Press the button for 3 seconds and it enters self-cleaning mode (green light shows)and generates ozone gas - do not drink the self-cleaning mode water!
I have only used it once with an external bottle and this screwed easily to the base of the unit with no adapter needed. The cannula system again I have tried only once and it is easy enough to use and works OK, so far as I can tell.
The unit has a built in 1800mAh rechargeable battery and I found with two of us having four 10 minute mode glasses each daily it needs charging at least
