For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)
Shakin' the foundation, the high voltage nineteen song set leans on four tracks from Black Ice interspersed between the in-demand AC/DC classics. It's been Brian Johnson's gig from behind the mic for over thirty years now, as the stocky singer has capably put in his time with the no-frills AC/DC. Live at River Plate goes ten songs deep from the days when the late Bon Scott was fronting the group with a whole lotta cocksure attitude, a further testament to the bad ass dirty deeds dealt by the unpretentious group during the wild seventies and into 1980.
"Rock 'n' Roll Train" sets the the solid show down the hot steel rails, which unfortunately via CD isn't capable of conveying the sexually-charged animated intro clip that preceded AC/DC taking the stage throughout the world-wide Black ice tour. The Murray John directed video, followed by a runaway locomotive wreck, was a bitchin' segue into the roaring "Rock 'n' Roll Train" throughout the Black Ice tour. The boys wasted no time gettin' down to their fav destination as "Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be" follows the opener, with "Back in Black" deliverd hot on the heels of the homage paid to south of heaven. The AC/DC engine is stoked by guitarists Angus and Malcolm Young. While diminutive Mal remains nailed to the floor behind his big Gretsch, with a cigarette hangin' loosely from his lips, the elder Young brother keeps the rhythm locked and loaded, while devilish Angus circles the huge stage in ever-present school boy garb and Gibson SG. Like AC/DC's riff rock, somethings never fucking change... nor should they.
The pounding performance is anchored by drummer Phil Rudd and bassist Cliff Williams, as AC/DC push the meters behind the likes of "Shot Down in Flames", "Hells Bells", "Shoot to Thrill", "Dog Eat Dog", "You Shook Me All Night Long", "T.N.T.", "Let There Be Rock" and "Highway to Hell". With canons primed, the anthemic "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)" brings the headbangin' set to an explosive close, followed by commands of more from their loyal and frenzied Argentinian fans.
