The American Liberty Dollar was a private currency based on 1 ounce of Silver. The Liberty Dollar was the brainchild of Bernard Von NotHaus, mint master supreme from Hawaii. There was at one time over 200 million Liberty Dollars in circulation with over 250,000 users! The Feds raided the American Liberty Headquarters and the Sunshine mint, seizing all ALD assets, claiming them to be counterfeit. Bernard Von NotHaus served a shorten prison sentence for counterfeiting. Some seized assets were return to their owners, but some were never returned.
