In this the sixth part of a series I'm doing from a recent road trip we took to southern Wyoming, from the Forgotten Ames Brothers Pyramid in the middle of nowhere, to Arrowhead Hunting near Medicine Bow National Forest, to our visit at the Grand Encampment Museum. This time we swing by the Lincoln Monument, not the one in D.C. but southern part of Wyoming. And as the sun sets, I read of the story of American Airlines Flight 409 which tragically crashed head first into Medicine Bow Mountain near Highway 130 (Snowy Range Road). Join me for yet another trip into our American history before the enemies of our Constitutional Republic completely erase any memory of those hearty souls who forged this nation into the freest most prosperous place on the planet!
Despite there being no definitive investigation into the cause of this crash, another few theories that popped up upon further research after the filming of this video were the following:
* An altimeter indicating an inaccurate altitude, leading the pilot to believe he was higher than he actually was;
* Mountain obscuration by clouds, preventing visual sighting of the mountain peak before it was too late to react to prevent the crash;
* Turbulence, specifically downdrafts, around Medicine Bow peak, pushing Flight 409 into the mountain.
