A disease that originated in the marketing department of a pharmaceutical company. I followed the matter and then met the inventor of this "Sissi syndrome".
It is a doctor who also worked in the advertising industry and he said: let's meet.
Then we met in Dortmund at the main train station.
He had three files in it and from the material you could really trace as a journalist how such a disease is invented by the industry.
So in the first step you have the idea:
We have a pill and now we need a disease for it.
What could be a suitable disease?
In the second step, you say:
We define a disease that didn't exist before and look for a prominent person, an identification figure, to make this disease known to the people.
And in this case, the idea was to say that this is "Sissi," we believe she was ill in reality. But nobody saw it; we have now discovered it on the basis of literature research and have therefore defined this clinical picture and are now trying to make it known.
And then the next step was to say: We need doctors and psychologists for this.
Then doctors and psychologists were contacted and invited to a so-called kick-off meeting. This took place on Mallorca.
So German doctors really flew in.
They discussed it and said: Yes, we believe there is this "Sissi" syndrome and a few months later there was a press conference in Germany and this "Sissi" syndrome was presented to the public and it was claimed that at least three million people in Germany are affected by it.
