Laura Gustafson- Bowden on Oprah

I was the woman back in the 90s who appeared on your Show. I received a call from your staff inviting me and my Chicago Breast Implant Support Group to join in the audience of a taping in 1995. All of the women in our group had been sick from their told-to-be “safe” breast implants. Sadly, many have died since then of “rare” cancers. Not so “safe” after all.

The CEO of Dow Corning was on the panel. I was thrilled, as you could imagine, that Oprah was willing to do an episode on a topic that we were struggling to alert the public about. How brave of you to give us the chance to confront the CEO of a company that has harmed so many women. Something that had never been done. Until then.

All the women in our group had been so ill. All were told that there was nothing wrong with them. All with the same symptoms. All anxious to have this platform to tell their stories. To have their voices finally heard. To save other women.
