Swimming with WHALE SHARKS in Holbox Island, Mexico

Welcome to Awake & Abroad.

After taking a few days to recover Jaz and I were finally fit enough to continue traveling through the Yucatan Peninsula in southern Mexico.

Our next destination is Isla Holbox to swim with whale sharks, a tropical island located northwest of Cancun.

To get there we must first drive 4 hours to the town of Chiquila and then catch a two-hour ferry across to Holbox. Our mission is to swim with Whale Sharks.

Holbox is an island and Tropical Paradise featuring endless beaches, bioluminescent waters, and the opportunity to swim with whale sharks.

The beauty of Holbox is its simplicity, nature, and slow rhythm. When you're here you just can't help but slow down and live in the present moment.

So we booked a tour that will take us two hours into Open Water where whale sharks feed during summer months. Our mission is to find whale sharks and swim with them after that we have planned to make fresh Ceviche and snorkel at a reef before heading back to Holbox.

Whale sharks these enormous ocean creatures that move gracefully through the water as the largest fish on earth with their massive size reaching up to 40 feet in length and weighing several tons.

With their Majestic presence decorated in a mesmerizing pattern of white spots and stripes Whale Sharks glide through the warm oceans and barking on incredible migrations. Swimming with whale sharks in Mexico is a must!
