I thought I’d quickly cover the announcement of Indian Motorcycles new 2022 Pursuit model. This bike is being touted as their most capable touring machine with the liquid-cooled PowerPlus engine delivering performance for the long distance hauler.
The PowerPlus is a 1768 cc or 108 cubic inch liquid-cooled V-Twin producing 121 horsepower or 90 kilowat, while torque peaks at 131 ft-lbs, with overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and a six-speed transmission with assist clutch. That’s been further refined with calibration that Indian claims helps low speed drivability.
Managing that power is a set of rider maps, spanning Sport, Standard and Rain, which allow the rider to choose different throttle maps, matched to different traction control settings. There’s also a seven-inch touch screen display with Ride Command including Apple CarPlay, GPS navigation and plenty of other data. It’s worth noting that speedo and tacho gauges are retained as analogue units, mixing a bit of new with the old.
The chassis mounted fairing ensures high speed touring doesn’t effect steering, with an adjustable windscreen and lower vents, while driving lights are integrated to help in poor visibility conditions. Heated grips are also standard as are a heated seat, while a trunk and saddlebags combine for 133 litres of lockable storage, offering great standard capacity off the showroom floor. Lighting does look to be LED all-round from what I can tell too.
Electronics also extend to the rear suspension, provided by Fox, which is an electronically adjustable system with preload managed via the dash, with this tech becoming an optional extra in the accessory range for all Challenger models now. Forks are 43 mm inverted units, with 130 mm of travel at the front and 114 mm at the rear.
We’re also seeing a set of Brembo radial-mount four-pot calipers, backed by ABS and a Bosch IMU for cornering functionality, with Metzeler Cruisetec tyres standard fitment. Those rotors are large 320 mm..
