These costumes make the dancer “become” the spirit entity. The symbols on the tall hats are sacred words. The dancers train for many years, and many of the people fall into a trance during these dance rituals to transcend and illuminate. The rituals are very specific and unique to individual tribes, though these are often performed in public for curious, paying tourists.
