How about starting at the beginning: the Enlightenment was about Cogito Ergo Sum = Human Rights. It was called Liberalism: each human has natural Human Rights. By definition, it is about individualism vs oligarchical control. The American Founders (USA) were the first in history to codify this Liberal concept and its precepts into Law. The American Founders "conserved" nothing, they were Radicals in the cause of Liberal Individualism.
Marxism is about Collectivism...to wit, it is designed to grow an oligarchy (of "benevolent" Elites - The State) to manage the lives of all others. It is the antithesis of Liberalism.. it is a (re)establishment of the (neo)Old World Order: Nobles ruling the Peasantry.
Collectivists, The Left, are not now, nor have they ever been LIBERAL, full stop.
A bit of History that Orwell called NewSpeak: At the turn of the 20th century the left admired a rabid socialist with a new economic model - not ownership of the means of production but control of it. (A reaction to the USSR's devastation) He called this new collectivism fascism. In America, adherents called themselves Progressives. By 1913 they elected the first Progressive president, Wilson..who re-segregated the military & postal service, and signed into law the collectivized banking system: the Federal Reserve & central banks. (It doesnt take a brain surgeon to see the results of that!*) Power And Money: the tools of control. The Progs continued to call themselves such until their Hero invaded Ethiopia for the second time in the 1930s. Oops! That necessitated another name change. They decided on Liberal .. irony, subterfuge, artifice: 2+2=5.
Conservatism is not an ideological/philosophical term, it's a political term. It is the very Spirit of Liberalism that one now wishes to (politically) conserve.
Weinstein did not stop being a Liberal .. he is championing Liberalism (against the insurgent marxists/fascists of the 20th century).
Its 100yrs on. It's time to stop the propaganda; time to destroy NewSpeak, time to reclaim language, our sense of ourselves!
Know who you are!
