Woman With Speech Impediment Loses Stutter When Singing; Shocks America's Got Talent Judges
Amanda Mammana writes songs about the human condition, tapping into the incredible power of faith, hope and perseverance. Her music is impacted most by her faith in Jesus Christ. At the age of 10, Amanda developed a stutter. Once an outgoing and social kid, she became quiet and reserved, always hesitant to speak for fear of rejection, misunderstanding, or mockery. During this time, she found music and it became her solace, a place of escape where notes and a melody could do the talking. While music eased the challenge of speaking, it didn’t erase it and Amanda continued to battle with feelings of doubt and insecurity. After a particularly difficult summer, she turned to songwriting and there found the freedom to share her heart and her story, with the hopes of encouraging others in their own journey.
In 2022, Amanda appeared on season 17 of America’s Got Talent, making it all the way to the semi-finals. She touched the hearts of millions with her powerful original, “Back to Life,” a song of gratitude for the challenges that have made her who she is today. As her stutter remains, Amanda amplifies her voice in music and she hopes that everyone who listens to her songs feels seen, heard, and known. Her main goal is to inspire and bring hope to the world, empowering every person to not let challenges keep them from chasing their dreams and instilling in everyone a belief that they can overcome, no matter what they face. Her debut album Back to Life is out June 21, 2024. (from https://www.amandamammana.com/)
"Back to Life"
[Verse 1]
I still remember that kid afraid to open the door
And now she's grown and she doesn't keep that fear anymore
It was kept in a box and it locked, and she held the key
But now the box is locked and the key is nowhere to be seen
[Chorus]
But what if I could go back in time
And change the way I felt about my life?
Oh, but then would I still have inside
Everything that's brought me back to life?
[Verse 2]
I still remember that kid wanting to be more
But now she knows that she's worth more than what she's been told
She tried her best to be best and just forget the rest
But the rest is the best and it's what you get, so just let go
[Chorus]
But what if I could go back in time
And change the way I felt about my life?
Oh, but then would I still have inside
Everything that's brought me back to life?
[Verse 3]
I still remember that kid afraid of losing it all
And now she knows that it's the fire inside her bones

[Chorus]
But what if I could go back in time
And change the way I felt about my life?
Oh, but then would I still have inside
Everything that's brought me to life?
