An old song from college, around 2002. I was doing research on ancient Greek music when I came across a story by Plato where Socrates was playing a game with a mathematician. They were trying to find the perfect formula, and the calculation Socrates came up was one that eliminated the number 6, that supposedly represented humans It was, in a certain way, as if to state that if you wanted perfection, then you can't have humans. This gave me the inspiration for this piece which I call the Tyrant Song because, more often than not, tyrants strive for perfection, and, as the modern dictators show, this often leads to a deadly end sum game where the tyrants desire to eliminate humanity in order to achieve their perfection. The pattern of the music reflects this, as the song sounds in good, even 'perfect' or utopic harmony, but something's not quite right, and you could call this the cognitive dissonance, whereby the 'perfection' shows its dystopic result. A pretty package, but a deadly prize can be the result of seeking a suicidal perfection.
