Afterimage - Playthrough Part 1

Started playing Afterimage - a 2D action platformer with some Metroidvania elements. At the start the game immediately hits you with a ton of lore about a goddess who went missing. You play as Renee - a mysterious woman who has lost her memory. If I am to guess she's the Goddess or something. There was some apocalyptic event called the Razing which threw everything into chaos and the moment Renee lost her memories. She has a companion named Ifree who is there for comedic relief, I guess.

The controls are pretty basic. You have 2 weapon slots each dedicated to a single weapon, which can be swapped in and out in the inventory. The combos are pretty simple (as in there's barely any), but there is a huge skill tree, so maybe that improves with time. You also have a dash, but to my surprise it's doesn't have invincibility frames meaning that when I dashed towards enemies I took contact damage. There are inventory slots where you can equip armour and accessories to improve your stats. Primeval glyphs are single use healing spells replenished at checkpoints called Confluences (the game throws a lot of terminology your way).

Eventually I reached a boss monster and defeated it, but it had a second form and instantly killed me, which leads me to believe it was intended this way. Renee it turns out has a special ability that makes her immortal - rather than returning to the Stream of Souls she gets resurrected at a Confluence. After defeating another wolf boss, Renee sees that her village is nearly destroyed by monsters and her master was gravely wounded. There a mysterious woman with a triangular emblem on her cloak was extracting Madame's soul and then escaped, so our heroine is now chasing her.
