Today I'm presenting you a video that I've wanted to make for a while, after all, my very first record was the "Hit Parade of the Smurfs" from 1980. And since today is not only the 2nd Easter holiday, but also April 1st, I have a few Easter eggs hidden in the pictures.
About the song:
In 1977, the Dutch composer and pop singer Pierre Kartner (1935-2022) was commissioned to write a song about the Smurfs. He took over all the vocal parts during the recording, including those of the Smurfs. The song, which he released under the stage name "Father Abraham", was a great success in the Netherlands, so that various foreign language versions followed.
The German version was published in 1978, the German lyrics were written by Frank Dostal (1945-2017). This version was also a great success and reached number 1 in the German singles annual charts.
The Smurfs are comic characters invented in 1958 by the Belgian illustrator and author Peyo (Pierre Culliford, 1928–1992).
