Sono stati scritti oltre 70 anni fa, eppure sono terribilmente di attualità: sorveglianza digitale, manipolazione delle notizie, schedatura di massa, dipendenza da antidepressivi… La società odierna non sta forse scivolando verso quella deriva totalitaria descritta nei romanzi distopici “1984” e “Il Mondo Nuovo” firmati George Orwell e Aldous Huxley?

Ospitando le testimonianze dello scrittore Boualem Sansal, della filosofa Cynthia Fleury e di Richard Blair, figlio adottivo di Orwell, questo documentario ripercorre le vicende dei due autori, con le loro personalità conflittuali e al tempo stesso accomunate dalla letteratura e dalla sete di libertà. A loro dobbiamo il monito contro l’amore inconsapevole per la schiavitù: “Siamo indotti a pensare di essere liberi anche quando non lo siamo”.
