---
A German folk and children's song from Moravia, written at the end of the 19th century. It was first published in 1905 with the title "Bauernlied". The text known today was revised by the musicologist and co-founder of the Bohemian section of the Austrian Wandervogel Walter Hensel and first published in 1923.
A Sinterklaas song is sung to the same tune in the Netherlands. Sinterklaas is the Dutch Santa Claus.
Text:

English translation:
In March the farmer harnesses the horse
He repairs his fields and meadows.
He plows the ground, harrows and sows
and he works from morning till evening.
The farmer's wife, the maids, they must not rest
they have to do work in house and in garden.
They dig and rake and sing a song
They are happy when everything is getting green and blooming.
So spring goes by while we work
Then the farmer harvests the fragrant hay
He mows the grain then threshes it
In winter there are many happy feasts.
