A march composed by Florian Pedarnig. Josef Pedarnig wrote the lyrics. Created in the mid-1950s, after Pedarnig had published it in 1985, it was increasingly distributed beyond Tyrol. It is now part of the repertoire of numerous brass bands and has also been recorded by representatives of folk music. Due to its widespread use, the march is sometimes referred to as the "secret Tyrolean national anthem". The march is also often played at folk festivals and in marquees (e.g. at the Oktoberfest in Munich).
In addition to the two stanzas performed here, there are other stanzas, but these are not by Josef Pedarnig and do not officially belong to the march.
Interpret/Artist: Militärmusik Tirol, Leitung/Conductor: Major Hannes Apfolterer
Album: Lieder - Hymnen - Märsche mit Gesang, 2004
Text:
1.
Weil du so schön bist, mein Tiroler Land!
2.
Ein harter Kampf hat dich entzwei geschlagen,
Von dir gerissen wurde Südtirol.
Die Dolomiten grüßen uns von ferne,
In roter Glut zum letzten Lebewohl.
---
English translation:
1.
A wreath of mountains proud and raised high,
Surrounds the homeland, my Tyrolean country.
The peaks shine brightly in their splendor,
And shine farly from a steep rock face.
Refrain:
You are the country I am loyal to
Because you are so beautiful, my Tyrolean country!
2.
A hard fight has broken you in two
South Tyrol was torn from you.
The Dolomites greet us from afar,
In red embers for the last farewell.
