Morgenlicht leuchtet (Morning Has Broken) - Kirchenlied/ Ecclesiastical Song + English translation

German church song, the lyrics were written by the Protestant pastor Jürgen Henkys (1929-2015). The melody comes from the Scottish folk song "Bunessan". Mary MacDonald (1789–1872) wrote the Gaelic Christmas carol “Leanabh an àigh” (“Child of Joy”) to this tune. The English children's book author Eleanor Farjeon (1881–1965) wrote the song "Morning Has Broken" to the same melody, which was first published in 1931 in the Christian song collection "Songs of Praise". This song became popular worldwide in the version by the English pop musician and folk singer Cat Stevens from 1971.
Text:
----------
English translation:
1. Morning light shines, pure as at the beginning.
Early song of the blackbird, praise of the creator sounds.
Thank for the songs, thank for the morning,
Thank for the word from which both come.
2. Drops fall gently, illuminated by the sun,
as the first dew covered the first grass.
Thank for the traces of God in the garden,
fresh green, perfect blue.
3. Mine is the sun, mine is the morning,
Splendor that sets off to me from Eden!
Give thanks effusively, thanks to God in the morning,
Re-created, your light greets us!
