Text:
Liegen die Schären in silbernem Glanz;
Birken die schweben im Mittsommertanz.
Trägt dir der Nachtwind den Eulenschrei zu,
flieht dich der Schlaf, findest nicht Ruh'.
Füße, die wollen ins Endlose geh'n,
wollen an Strömen und Hochmooren stehn,
zieht dich der Nordstern mit magischer Macht
über das Land, weit durch die Nacht.
Alle, die Häuser und Höfe verträumt,
ruhen vom Hauche des Friedens umsäumt.
Über den Bergen des Nordlichtes Brand,
glückliches Volk, glückliches Land.
---
English translation:
The skerries lie in a silvery shine;
Birches float in the midsummer dance.
If the night wind carries the hoot of an owl to you,
then sleep flees you and you cannot find peace.
Feet, that want to go into endlessness,
that want to stand by rivers and raised moors,
the North Star pulls you with magical power
across the country, far through the night.
All the houses and farms are dreamy,
they rest, surrounded by the breath of peace.
The northern lights burn above the mountains,
happy people, happy country.
